Biography

Esther Suzanne Scott is a painter, a sewer, a wordsmith and a boldly honest artist.  She exposes her inner self, her hopes, her dreams, her fantasies, her foibles and allows us the viewer, a chance to land on them for a while.

Scott’s forthcoming painting show, A STAR takes the stage in vibrance and makes it a place of wonder and fear for her puppet dolly archetypes.  Her performers with blond and red bouffants, slinky gowns and majorly coy eyelashes contort for our pleasure and sport fishnets like weapons.  Scott’s painting bravado, which breaks down into contour line and simple retina searing colour is at once masterful, and electrically prophetic, calling to mind artists like George Condo and the singularity of Frida Kahlo.

Esther Suzanne Scott (b.1976, Canada) is a mid-career Canadian visual artist working in the mediums of fibre arts, painting and drawing.  She lives and works in the town of Didsbury Alberta.  Working primarily in text-based, sequin encrusted signage Scott reimagines well-worn phrases and words into new meaning, exposing conceptual fragments of the human experience.  Her drawings and paintings explore figurative narratives, rendering everyday instances into strange occurrences. Humour, elegant mark-making and obsession are the root of Scott’s aesthetic.

Upcoming exhibitions include A STAR a solo show at dhARTworld in September 2026 and a solo show at McMullen Gallery in 2027.  Her work is included in private collections across Canada and the public collection of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.
